IGN PC Best of 2004 Awards
Oh man, this year's crop of PC games was absolutely amazing. There were so many quality titles to outshine the typical number of crappy games that you can't but smile at the selection. The first-person shooter genre saw games like Half-Life 2, Far Cry, Tribes: Vengeance and DOOM 3 while the strategy genre had serious competition from Rome: Total War, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Ground Control II, Kohan II, Codename Panzers, Silent Storm and many more. Almost every sector of PC gaming showed that it is still the forefront of technology and innovation.

In any case, here's our game of the year winners in several different categories. All of these winners are very deserving of their awards. It was a tough field this year so to come out on top means it had to be excellent and in some cases, near perfect.
