Issue:
This awesome command came to us in AutoCAD® 2000 with the chief goal of permitting the editing of attached external references. As it turns out, it's a fantastic block editor as well. Most of us didn't think to try it out on blocks, even though technically blocks are referred to as references as well. Start studying autocad certification study guide. Learn vocabulary, terms, and more with flashcards, games, and other study tools. If the HATCH command did not.
When try to explode a block, the explode option if faded in the menubar or the following message appears on the command line 'Could not be exploded.'
Causes:
- Beginning with AutoCAD® 2006, the Allow Exploding option was added to the Block Definition dialog box. If this option is not selected when a block is created, instances of this block cannot be exploded.
- Corrupted user interface.
Solution:
To change the setting for an existing block so that it can be exploded:
- In the Block Editor, make sure nothing is selected.
- In the Properties palette(Ctrl+1), under Block, select the Allow Exploding option.
- On the Block Editor toolbar, click Save Block Definition.
- When you are finished using the Block Editor, click Close the Block Editor.

- Use the icon in the modify tab.
- Type the shortcut command X(explode) from the command line and enter.
- Explode blocks while inserting. (Tick the check box)

When trying to use an Express Tools command in AutoCAD (for example BURST, BREAKLINE, TXT2MTXT, ALIASEDIT, etc.), either through the command line or via the menu, the message 'Unknown command' shows on the command line. The Express Tools menu and ribbon tab might be missing in the program and the EXPRESSTOOLS command does nothing.Causes:
Most likely Express Tools has not been installed. Some versions of AutoCAD do not have Express Tools selected to install by default. You must enable the checkbox in the installation options.Note:Express Tools are not available for AutoCAD LT.
If it is confirmed that Express Tools has been installed, it may be that the feature has not been turned on.
Solution:
If the Express Tools are already installed or if certain Express Tools do work and others do not, check the Support File Search Paths as follows:
- Enter OPTIONS at the command line to bring up the Options dialog box.
- Navigate to the Files tab.
- Expand 'Support Files Search Path.'
- Verify that the Express Tools path is present.
- If the path is not present, use the 'Add...' button on the right to add the path manually.
- Path:C:program filesautodeskautocad 20xxexpress
- Be sure to edit this path for the correct version of AutoCAD.
